Sketch Frenzy Friday 03-08-13 A Banner Day

Hi Stampers!

Did you miss me?  I have been MIA the last couple of weeks due to family doings, work, and other assorted commitments.  I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at my church's Lenten Dinner/Study about my love of and joy in stamping and the spiritual connection of helping others with my stamping.  While preparing that talk, I really thought about why I love stamping so much. Hopefully, I'll be able to share more about that in some future posts.  But right now, it's Sketch Frenzy Friday time and we have a great, simple sketch from Deb Currier to play with:

Isn't this a cool looking sketch?  It is simple and classy--great job Deb!  Now here is my card:

Our Lenten series, which I mentioned above, features members of our congregation speaking about their artistic talents.  I spoke last Wednesday, and this Wednesday we had 3 people who are gardeners speak about gardening, conservation, and their love of nature.  Since I am on the committee that organized this series, I am sending out thank you notes to all the speakers.  I thought the bloomin' marvelous phrase from the Sale-a-Bration stamp set of the same name would be perfect for the thank you notes for our gardeners.  Other items I used on this card:
  • Primrose Petals, Soft Suede, and Very Vanilla card stock
  • Tea for Two Designer Series Paper
  • Delicate Designs TIEF
  • Apothecary Accents Framelits and Hearts a Flutter Framelits
  • Early Espresso ink (my FAVORITE) for stamping greetings!)
  • Basic Pearls
I used the Hearts a Flutter banner framelit to cut out the banners.  So how did I get them longer than the framelit???  Simple--I cut strips of the DSP and Soft Suede card stock slightly narrower than the width of the inside measurement of the framelit, put one end of the strip under the banner edge and pulled the remainder of the strip over the top of the square end of the framelit, ran it through the Big Shot and VOILA--a long strip with a banner end!  Easy peasy!

Well, I'm sure by now you're ready to go to the SFF blog to see all of the designers' cards.  Don't forget--you can join us.  We love to see your creations!  Just use our Linky tool that you will find on the blog.

Enjoy!

Sketch Frenzy Friday-A Sympathy Card

Hi Stampers!

Where has this last week gone?  It's Friday again, and I feel like time is flying too fast!!  It's also time for a new sketch from Sketch Frenzy Friday.  This week our sketch was created by Robbie:
As usual, Robbie has done an awesome job and created a great sketch for us.  Here is my card:
My dear friend Mary lost her oldest brother last week, so I decided to make her a sympathy card.  I used some colors that I hadn't used in a LONG time--Perfect Plum and Old Olive.  With all the In Colors and other colors that I like to use, I sometimes neglect others including my favorites.  I am a lover of all things purple, so I decided to use a purple color for my card.
  • Colors:  Perfect Plum, Old Olive, Very Vanilla, Summer Starfruit
  • Stamps:  Bloomin' Marvelous (FREE during SAB with a $50 purchase), Loving Thoughts, Blessings from Heaven
  • Accessories:  Perfect Polka Dots TIEF, 1-1/4" square punch, Old Olive 1/2" Scallop Dots Ribbon, Owl Builder Punch, 5/8" Flower Trim
So, you're asking, "What did she use the two punches for?"  I used the square punch for the flagged ends of the sentiment banner, and the smallest circle on the Owl Builder punch for the ticket punch corners on the Very Vanilla layer.  Here's what I did on the inside of the card:
I left some space so that I can add a personal note to Mary.

Now on to the SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY BLOG where you can find links to all the designers' cards AND where you can upload your own creation.  Why not join us!

Enjoy!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 02/08/2013

Hi Stampers!

It's Friday again, and you know what that means!!  Sketch Frenzy Friday time!!!   Yay!! We have a great sketch this week from Patrice:
And here is my card based on her sketch:
You'll notice that my card is NOT exactly like the sketch.  Honestly, I don't know what I was thinking when I looked at the sketch, except I wanted to make a Valentine card.  I knew I wanted to use the new doilies from the Spring Catalog, the Hearts a Flutter Framelits and the Honeycomb TIEF. By the time I folded, sponged, and placed the doilies, it wouldn't fit on a regular 4-1/4" X 5-1/2" card, so I decided to use a square card.  Here's what I did:
  • Cut Primrose Petals cardstock to 5-1/2" X 11"
  • Embossed the front of the card with the Honeycomb TIEF
  • Sponged 4 doilies with Soft Suede ink, folded each in fourths, and adhered to the card front with Mini Glue Dots
  • Cut 4 small hearts from the Print Poetry Paper Stack with the Hearts a Flutter Framelits, sponged each with Soft Suede, popped up one on each quarter circle with Stampin' Dimensionals and adhered a large pearl(largest of the ones that come in the multi size package of pearls) to each heart.
  • Stamped " Love You" from the Seasonal Sayings set--carried over from the Holiday Catalog--in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla card stock and Colored the heart in the middle with the Raspberry Ripple marker, cut it out with the banner framelit from the Hearts a Flutter framelits set, sponged the edges with Soft Suede, and popped it up with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Added a ribbon and bow made with the Primrose Petals stitched satin ribbon
Here's a close up view of the heart and sentiment section:
That's all from me today.  I am linking you to our main SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY blog, where you can look at all the other designers' cards based on this sketch.  Why not join us?  You'll find the Linky tool on our main blog also.

SUDSOL BLOG TOUR TODAY!!!

Hi Stampers:
This is an exciting day!  It's SUDSOL BLOG TOUR DAY!!  I get to tell you about SUDSOL and show you a project that I created from instructions in the VAST SUDSOL projec files!!  SUDSOL is 15 years old and I think I have been a member for about 14 years.  SUDSOL is the 24/7 Upline for EVERY Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  If you want to try SUDSOL for 2 weeks, click on THIS LINK and you'll be taken to my referral link.
On to my project for today!!  In the SUDSOL Creative area I had been looking for an envelope style box to hold 5-1/2" X 4-1/4" cards and envelopes.  One of our creative members posted a tutorial of just such a box, so I read the tutorial, wrote down the measurements and went to work!  And here's what I created:

This box is so easy to create with the Simply Scored tool plus the Diagonal Score Board.  The finished box is 6-1/2" wide by 5" high and is almost 1-1/2" deep.  You start with a 12 X 12 piece of cardstock or Designer Paper & cut to 11" X 11", scored, folded, adhered together and voila!--a darling card box for a gift or to keep to store cards.  It will hold at least 4 cards plus envelopes, and I actually was able to put 6 in it for a test.  To go along with the box, I created 4 matching cards:

You'll notice I used the same type of medallion on the cards as I used on the box.  The flap of the box is held closed by tucking it behind the medallion.  Here's a close-up of the medallion:

And here's a list of supplies for this project:

12 X 12 Core'Dinations card stock in Primrose Petals
81/2 X 11 Primrose Petals card stock
Very Vanilla card stock
Tea for Two Designer Series Paper
Oh, Hello stamp set (I used the clear mount)
Primrose Petals and Early Espresso Ink pads
Primrose Petals and Lucky Limeade markers
Ovals Framelits
Basic Pearl jewels
Primrose Petals stitched satin ribbon
Honeycomb TEIF
Sanding system

Looking for Spring! Sketch Frenzy Friday 01-25-13

Hi Stampers:

Well, winter has kicked in with a vengeance in the Ohio Valley!!  Our lows the past couple of days have been in the single digits and teens, and the highs haven't made it out of the twenties!  So of course I am looking for Spring!!  If I can't have it outside, I can certainly have it with stamping!!  Our sketch this week was created by--drum roll, please--ME!  Here it is:
And since I created the sketch this week, I thought it only fair to actually stamp and create a REAL card--not an MDS card.  I LOVE making cards in MDS, especially when my life is so rushed that I don't have time to stamp!!  I also LOVE stamping!!  And here is my creation/interpretation of my own sketch:
Here's what I used:
  • So Saffron (#126957) and Very Vanilla (#101650) cardstocks
  • Tea for Two Designer Series Paper (#129311 in the Spring catalog)
  • Secret Garden stamp set (#129141-wood #129144-Clear) and matching framelits (#129372)--both in the Spring catalog
  • Natural 7/16" Trim Ribbon (#129287 in the Spring catalog)
  • Decorative label punch (#120907) and 3/4" circle punch (#119873)
  • Bloomin' Marvelous stamp set (#129651-wood #129654-clear)--available FREE during Sale-a-Bration with a $50 purchase!
  • Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#119246)
  • Tangerine Tango (#126946) and Early Espresso (#126974) ink pads (did I ever tell you that Early Espresso has become my go-to color for stamping sentiments?)
  • Stampin' Dimensionals to pop up the flower and the label with the greeting (#104430)
  • Delicate Designs Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (#127023)
And that's my card!  I am now linking you to the SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY BLOG  where you can check out what the other designers have done with this sketch.  Why not join us?  There are instructions on the blog detailing how to link your creation to the blog.  We'd LOVE to see what you create!!

Enjoy!!

A Bit of Spring--Sketch Frenzy Friday 1-11-13

Hi Stampers:

It's Friday again and time for another awesome sketch and project to show you.  It was Deb's turn to give us a sketch.  Here's her sketch:

I love her sketch!  As I've done a lot lately, I created a card in MDS following her sketch:

The colors I used are Daffodil Deight, Wild Wasabi, Soft Suede, Early Espresso.  The banner strip under the flower is Tea Time II, pattern 2.  The flower is from the Bright Blooms embellishments and the stamp brush is from the 2013 Month by Month Calendar download.

As you know, I am linking you to our main blog, SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY, where you can see all of the designers' creations.  Check them out--they are AWESOME!

Enjoy!
